Salt Mine Training Camp®
The Salt Mine Training Camp was a boxing camp in Ramona, California, founded by Archie Moore in the 1960s. Located at the foot of Mt. Woodson, it was named after the grueling labor of salt mining, symbolizing the intense training it offered. The camp featured a boxing ring, a sweatbox, and trails for road work, becoming a hub for rigorous preparation. Notable fighters like Muhammad Ali and George Foreman trained there, with Ali later drawing inspiration from the Salt Mine Training Camp to create his open his own, Deer Lake Training Camp.
