Jack Dempsey

William Harrison “Jack” Dempsey, nicknamed Kid Blackie and The Manassa Mauler, was an American professional boxer who competed from 1914 to 1927, and reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1919 to 1926.

Jack Dempsey’s mom gave a salesmen a glass of cold milk in return he gave her a book about John Lawrence Sullivan (the world’s greatest fighter), “The Modern Gladiator”. She read the book over and over during pregnancy to keep busy. Jack Dempsey was born 11 pounds in 1895.

Jack began boxing with his brothers at age 7. Jack grew up very poor and didn’t have any toys and the only thing he read was The Bible. He said when he became a professional boxer he used to pray many times before a fight. 

Jack’s principles were:
1) Try to learn at least one new thing each day.
2) Always to be honest, to be honest to himself.

Lived by the motto: Early to bed, early to rise. And was a big fan of self-improvement.
