Joseph William Frazier, nicknamed “Smokin’ Joe”, was an American professional boxer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. He was known for his strength, durability, formidable left hand, and relentless pressure fighting style. He was also the first boxer to defeat Muhammad Ali.

Joe Frazier was called “Smokin’ Joe” because his trainer, Yank Durham, would tell him before fights to “go out there and make smoke come out of your gloves,” referring to his aggressive fighting style that would throw so many punches it would seem like smoke was coming from his fists.
