Grossinger’s Training Camp®*

Nestled within the Catskill Mountains in New York was Grossinger’s Training Camp. It was an incredible location located next door to Grossinger’s resort camp and the Grossinger Hotel. The resort enjoyed its heyday in the 1950s. It offered a quiet retreat ideal for fighters seeking an escape from the concrete jungles of big cities. Sprawling training grounds, a pool, and even the food was quite grand. It boasted a breadth of running trails, exercise rooms, rings for sparring, and the general solitude that was such an appeal to those who were focused on upcoming bouts, or just trying to excel with their training.

Rocky Marciano was one of the greatest champs to come through Grossinger’s Training Camp as he spent more than 3 years honing his skills at this location. Some considered Grossinger’s to be Marciano’s ‘office’ during that time, because of his commitment to this location. Many of the greatest boxers in history understood how important it was to be mentally focused and tough, just as it was to be in peak physical condition. The great George Chuvalo has fond memories of those ‘incredible training grounds.’ Champions found places like Grossinger’s Training Camp to be such a vital key to their success.
